Police in Anambra State have smashed a 3-man syndicate dealing with prohibited arms in Onitsha, the commercial city of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement said 23 pump action guns and 625 live cartridges were recovered from the syndicate in Onitsha.
He said the feat followed weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the command.
He said, “The Police in Anambra State have arrested a major arms dealer dealing illegally in prohibited Firearms in the State.
“The breakthrough followed weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the Command.
“A total of 23 Automatic Pump Action Guns and 625 live cartridges were recovered.
“So far three suspects have been arrested in Onitsha while investigation is being expanded.”
According to Ikenga, Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye has commended operatives involved in the operation on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, who provided guidance throughout the operation.
