Ex-Malawi President to speak at Zik Lecture Series as Makinde, Obi, others attend

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State is set to host the 12th edition of the annual Zik Lecture Series slated for Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Secretariat.

The event regarded as the mother of all events in UNIZIK is being organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University with the theme: “reclaiming Zik’s world: climate justice and Africa’s sustainable development”.

According to a release by Chairman of the Zik Lecture Series Planning Committee, Prof. Uche Ebeze, the event will be chaired by Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Seyi Makinde, while the former President of Malawi, Dr. Joyce Banda will be the Guest Lecturer.

Some prominent guests expected at the event include the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the Chief Guest of Honour, while the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi as the distinguished Guest of Honour.

The Benefactor of Zik Lecture Series, Senator High Chief Dr. Ben Ndi Obi will also be on ground as well as the wife of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Prof. Uche Azikiwe.

Other dignitaries to grace the occasion are the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and Eze Uzu Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu as the Royal Fathers of the day, with the Adviser, Zik Lecture Series, Prof. Nkemdili Au Nonyelu.

Meanwhile, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, UNIZIK, Prof. Frank-Collins Okafor is the event Host, while the Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS is the Chief Host.

Guests are expected to be seated by 9.00am at the ASUU Secretariat of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka to relish the intellectual harvest of Zik’s ideologies.

Recall that Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the Owelle of Onitsha and Zik of Africa pioneered the struggle for Nigeria’s independence and eventually became the first President of Nigeria.
