The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Anambra State Command said it has rescued a 23-year-old woman and her four underaged children from a suspected human trafficker.
The Public Relations Officer, Okafor Anthony in a statement, said the male suspect, from Benin Republic had falsely assumed a Nigerian identity to lure the woman for sexual exploitation.
He said the suspect had moved his victim from Anambra to Ogun State where she faced all manner of exploitation and abuse with the kids.
He however said providence smiled on them as they were later rescued by a good Nigerian who handed them over to the Agency.
He said, “At about 17:30hrs on 2nd November, 2023. Anambra State Command rescued a 23yrs old victim of Human Trafficking with her four children aged 8yrs, 6yrs, 4yrs and 3yrs respectively from Ogun State.
“The suspected trafficker is a male from Benin Republic who falsely assumed a Nigerian identity with which he used to lure the victim for sexual exploitation by himself and moved her to Ogun State from Anambra State where the victim with her four children faced all manner of exploitation and abuse until she was rescued by a good Nigerian.
“The suspect was traced to one of the prisons in Nigeria where he is currently being detained for other crimes he committed.”
