A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 30-year-old woman, Halima Shehu, who allegedly poured hot water on her neighbour, be remanded in a correctional centre.
Shehu, who lives in Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, was charged with causing grievous hurt.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, ordered that the defendant be remanded until Nov. 28, for the commencement of hearing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the husband of the victim, Hassan Saleh, of the same address with the defendant, reported the matter at Gabasawa Police Station on Oct. 8, at about 4 pm.
“The complainant alleged that on the same date, his wife went to resolve a dispute between the defendant and her step son when the incident occurred.
“In the process of settling the dispute, the defendant suddenly came with a pot of hot water and poured on her, as a result she sustained serious injuries all over her body.
“As a result of the hot water which she poured all over her body, she was inflicted with serious injuries on her back, front and other sensitive parts of her body, and was rushed to the hospital,” Leo stated.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 224 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charge.(NAN)
