Court Remands Tiller for Allegedly Stealing 85 Pieces of Scaffolding Pipes

A Lugbe Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered that a 32-year-old tiller, Charles Eze, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly stealing 85 piece of scaffolding pipes worth N10.2 million,The police charged Eze with criminal trespass and theft.

The judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional Service facility in Kuje, until Sept. 29.Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku told the court that the complainant, Mr Ibrahim Shehu reported the matter at the Asokoro Police Station on Sept.5.Nwaforaku, said that the complainant alleged that on Sept. 3 at about 3 a.m. the defendant trespassed into his building site. He told the court that the defendant stole 85 pieces of scaffolding pipes and jacks worth N10.2 million.

He told the court that the defendant was later caught and handed over to the police for proper investigation.

The prosecution said during police investigation and interrogation the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his actions and the offences contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
