The police in Osun, on Friday, arraigned two men before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing cocoa beans worth N250,000. The defendants: Felix Philip, 20 and Michael Julius, 20, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
They, however, denied the charges preferred against them by the police.
The Prosecutor, ASP Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Sept 19, 2023 at Mosarajo village via Ile-Ife.
Emmanuel said that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit: burglary and stealing. He added that the defendants broke into and entered the house of one Olajide Rotimi and stole his one-and-a-half bags of dried cocoa beans, valued at N250,000.
The offences, he said, were contrary to and punishable under Sections 390(9), 411 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Magistrate, Kikelomo Adebayo, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
Adebayo said that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, with evidence of three years tax clearance certificate. She, thereafter, adjourned the case till Oct 17 for hearing. (NAN)
