A 25-year-old commercial driver, Omoniyi Ojan, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for alleged stealing of palm fruits worth N200,000.The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant and two others at large committed the theft on Aug. 25 at 06.00 p.m. at Apore Camp on Irele Road in Okitipupa.
Omoyeigha said that the palm fruits belonged to the complainant, Mr Alfred Emiotan.
He said that the offence was punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlopetu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Akinlopetu said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to Ondo State Government.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 29 for hearing. (NAN)
