The Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO) in Anambra has lauded Gov. Charles Soludo for abolishing fees and levies in public primary and Junior Secondary schools in the state.

This is contained in a statement jointly issued in Onitsha by the group’s state Chairman and Secretary, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, and Mr Chidi Mbah, respectively, and made available to newsmen on Friday.

The group lauded Soludo for listening to the cries of students and parents over the escalating cost of education in the state and country at large.

Many Nigerians have decried the the outrageous school fees charged by some mission schools, blaming it on the fuel subsidy removal.

They argued that such abnormal charges defeated the good intentions of government in returning schols to the missions.

“For the policy to have wider positive effects, mission schools that government handed back to churches should be inclusive as government uses tax payers’ money to pay teachers and staff of these schools.

“The aim of government will be a wasted effort, if the mission and private schools were not called to order and given operational guidelines,” the CLO stated.

It further advised the governor to constitute a monitoring committee to ensure strict adherence to his directive and ensure it was not flouted by some school heads. (NAN)
