A classroom block in Nnobi High School, Anambra State may be swallowed by a devastating gully erosion that has cut off the Nnobi-Nkpor road if no urgent intervention is taken.

The gully is reportedly expanding by the day causing rapid downward movement of a mass of rock, earth and sloping towards the school.

A stakeholder in the area, Sir Obiora Okpala (Ifedioramma na Nnobi), regretted that the road is finally cut-off completely, calling for declaration of a state of emergency on the road by concerned authorities.

He said, “After I made a video that went viral on the early hours of Saturday 2nd September which Iโ€™m sure got to the Governor, he visited the site on Wednesday 6th September and promised immediate Mobilisation of Works to the sight.

โ€œAs at yesterday 12th September after series of downpour over the days the gully finally cut off the Road.

โ€œMy worries now is that about 16 feet to that road is one of the junior studentโ€™s classroom block of Nnobi High School. Any further devastation of the gully across the land will cut the classroom block into two.

โ€œI call on those close to the governor to urge him to come and assist the good people of Nnobi.

“The road is a short cut to most commercial commuters heading to parts of Abia and Akwa Ibom states from the commercial city of Onitsha and itโ€™s the major gateway to semi urban city of Ekwulobia. Itโ€™s a Multipurpose commercial route ,the road needs urgent Intervention.”
