The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday warned motorists plying Lagos-Badagry expressway against overloading and speed during the ember months.
Mr Williams Manga, Badagry Unit Commander, FRSC, gave the warning at a sensitisation programme organised for drivers of the Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWAP).
โWe have to call you here today to sensitise you all on how to ensure safety throughout the ember months and after.
โBy now, we all know that speed limit violations and overloading are responsible for major causes of road crashes on Badagry expressway.
โWe should all ensure that we have functioning brake, wipers and good tyres to avoid traffic road crash.
โI am imploring you all to ensure you always respect obligation of human life by obeying the rules of the roads.
โDo not overload your water trucks with goods and passengers, it is dangerous,โ he advised.
Manga appealed to โpure waterโ drivers to undergo the proper process of acquiring genuine driverโs licences to avoid being arrested on the roads.
He urged the drivers to also avoid using expired or fairly used tyres on their vehicles because it could lead to road crash.
Responding, Mr Isaac Obadairo, the ATWAP Chairman, Badagry zone, promised that the drivers would comply with all the instructions given to them by the unit commander.
โWe have heard what you said, this is for us to stay alive and healthy.
โWe are going to comply with all instructions and directives given to us today.
โThis is the first time we are meeting you since they posted you to Badagry unit command and we will surely cooperate with your personnel to ensure safety on highway,โ he said.
Obadaira also assured Manga that his members would continue to follow due process in acquiring genuine driverโs licences. (NAN)
