Enugu Municipal Rotary President to spend N26.5m on humanitarian projects in 12 months

By Olisemeka Obeche The newly inducted President of the Rotary Club of Enugu Municipal in Enugu State, Rotarian Chinedu Luke Ameke says the club under his leadership would spend the sum of Twenty Six Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N26,500,000) on various humanitarian projects and services during the 2023/2024 Rotary year. Ameke, who made the disclosure shortly after his investiture at the Predia Hotel, Enugu said the club would invest its resources in helping the poor and needy in society. He identified the areas where the Rotary Club of Enugu Municipal would target to include maternal and child health, hospital release of indigent patients, scholarships and back-to-school support for the indigent pupils and students as well as artificial hand for the indigents in the society. Other areas of their humanitarian service focus, according to him, included the Save the Environment initiative, training/empowerment of indigents as well as provision of water for a religious community. “We are scaling up our efforts in helping the poor and needy in the society because of the prevailing harsh socio-economic situation in the country which has made it even harder for indigent people to access quality medical services, education and others.
“On the other hand, we are also going to invest in environmental regeneration. Through our Save the Environment initiative, we hope to make desired impacts in climate change mitigation efforts which we believe are very important for all of us. Ameke who took over the mantle of leadership of the Rotary Club of Enugu Municipal for the second time on August 20, disclosed that his second stint as president of the club had provided him with the opportunity to provide quality leadership and services. “I’m better prepared, more confident and mature than before and that is an added advantage for us. And most importantly, I have a team of committed, resourceful and goal-getting persons to drive this process. So, we are positive about what we have set out to achieve during this calendar year. Earlier, about four individuals were bestowed with various awards and recognitions for their humanitarian services by the Rotary Club of Enugu Municipal. Among them were:Hon Nonso Ozoemene – Community Service Award, Chief Anthony Onyia – Community Service Award, Engr. Onyema Odo – Profesional Service Awards and Mrs Chika Mbaneme – Excellent Leadership Award
Rtn Tessy Igweani was also bestowed with the award of Longest Membership as she had been in the club from inception to date, making it 22 years of membership.
Earlier in his hand-over address, the former president of the club, Rtn Chijioke Ilegbune dsidosed that the 2022/23 year was a remarkable one for the club as his leadership was able to actilauze most of the goals set out for the club. He expressed confidence that Rotrn Ameke would take the club higher.
