A Lugbe Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a painter, Sadiq Aliyu to eight months imprisonment for stealing two cell phones worth N179. 000. Aliyu, 28, who lives in Lugbe Abuja pleaded guilty to theft and begged for leniency.
The Judge, Mr Aliyu Kagarko, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30,000.Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku told the court the convict committed the offence on Aug. 13 at the community secondary school Asokoro Abuja,Nwaforaku told the court that the complainant, Mr Khalid Idris of community secondary school Asokoro Abuja, reported the matter at the Asokoro Police Station on Aug 18.Nwaforaku told the court that on Aug. 12 at about 3:30 p.m. the convict pretended to be a guest at the school graduation ceremony. He said that the convict stole an Infinix hot 10 cell phone worth N89,000 and a Redmi 12c cell phone worth N90,000 belonging to the complainant and the school deputy director.
He stated that during police interrogation and investigation, the convict confessed to that he sold the Infinix hot 10 cell phone to one Aminu Abdullahi of Mararaba for N 30,000.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
