Court sentences 2 men to 15 months imprisonment for cheating

A Kano Shari’a Court sitting on Thursday, sentenced two men, Rabiu Kasim, 21, and Abubakar Sharif, 41, to 15 months imprisonment for cheating.

Kasim of Kwanar Dangora Quarters Kano and Sharif of Nasarawan Doya Quarters Kano were convicted on two-count count charge of criminal conspiracy and cheating.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Aliyu Abideen,told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Aug.2 at Tudun Maliki Quartres, Kano.

He said that on the same date at about 8:30 p.m., the defendants and one Abba Gaida and Mohammed of Katsina State, now at large boarded a tricycle at Tudun Maliki Quarters.
“In the process the defendants told the tricyclist Habibu Abdullahi that he had a spiritual problem.
“The tricyclist later became unconscious and the defendants deceitfully collected his tricycle and were arrested while trying to run away.
“The tricyclist later regained his senses,” he said.
The defendants pleaded guilty to the charge.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 120 and 206 of Kano State Shari’a Penal Code.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Nura Yusuf-Ahmad, sentenced the defendants to three months in a Correctional Center without option of fine for conspiracy.
Yusuf-Ahmad also sentenced the defendants to 12 months in a Correctional Centre without option of fine, for cheating and ordered that the tricycle be returned to the complainant.
“The defendant should also pay the complainant the sum of N21,000 as compensation for wasting his time, ” Yusuf-Ahmad said. (NAN)
