Member representing Awka South 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Henry Mbachu has provided free Wi-fi in all village squares and secondary schools in Awka and Okpuno in partnership with Airtel Nigeria.

He said digital skills have the capacity to keep young people busy, reduce crime while providing them with opportunity to earn a decent living.

Mbachu spoke in Awka while addressing heads of villages and communities that make up his constituency, including representatives of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Paul University during the flag off of 80 Free Wi-Fi.

He said the Wi-Fi project was part of the revolutions he would bring in the area to make a difference, revealing that he had bankrolled the services for the people of Awka and Okpuno for a period of one year for a start, subject to renewal.

While lamenting growing wave of criminality in the area, especially among the youths, the lawmaker expressed optimism in crime reduction with their engagements in the internet for
electronic business (e-business) and sundry useful digital activities.

According to Mbachu, the welfare of the people, particularly that of youth and the widows should not be left for the government, hence the need to partner with private sectors to provide services for the people.

Appreciating the village heads for supporting him to victory at the polls, he reassured them of quality representation, calling for more support to the project to ensure its success.

He said, “Nigeria no doubt is in dissary which has not only hightened migration of citizens, but increased levels of crimes and criminality. But some of us chose not to travel out but to stay back and see the changes we can offer.

“All of us are to blame for the crimes in our communities which was contributed by infiltration of foreigners. We must have to engage our youths beyond operating Keke and other menial jobs.

“That’s why we ventured into politics and thank God we won. Though we’re still in court, but we can’t afford to fold our arms and wait for the judgement. We must hit the ground running.

“I assure you of making good my campaign promises of quality representation. I’m going to work and that has to do primary with data. Unfortunately, that’s of our major problems in Nigeria.

“We will go village by village to engage the youths in focused discussions. We’ll teach them e-commerce so they can be distracted from violence and be attracted to the internet facilities.

“Out of the 80 gadgets, 6 will be installed at UNIZIK, while the rest will go to Paul University, 10 Secondary Schools for teacher’s free internet research work and the 44 village squares in the constituency.”
On his part, Airtel representative, Jerry Ani
announced a 5-G plant launch to boost network services across the state, urging the youths to take advantage of the opportunity for increased internet businesses.

Dr. Nelson Omenugha, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo said the lawmaker’s gesture was in line with Soludo’s agenda of making Anambra digitalized state in Nigeria.

Chairman of Umunamoke village Awka, Anagor Innocent, who spoke on behalf of other village heads, appreciated the lawmaker for his benevolence, urging him to maintain his relationship with the grassroots ahead future elections.

“You started with a good plan and the good plan will lead you to your reelection bid in the next poll,” he assured.
