GOC 82 Division visits 14 Brigade, urges officers on professionalism

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.- Gen. Hassan Dada, on Thursday paid a maiden visit to the Headquarters, 14 Brigade, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, Ohafia, Abia.He charged the men and officers of the Army to remain committed and steadfast at all times, saying that the war against insecurity should be fought with high sense of professionalism.

The GOC, who was received on arrival by the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Nsikak Edet, said that the purpose of his visit was to motivate them to do their work as required.He said: โ€œYou must remain very professional and must be very proactive and supportive to the commanders we have placed above you.โ€œThat is the only way we can combat this madness that is happening in your area.โ€œWe must not allow any form of insecurity to overwhelm us, because you have been trained and equipped to do just that and I believe you can do it.โ€Dada further urged the men and officers to engage with the communities around them, stressing the need to stop economic sabotage in terms of oil theft.

He also said that the soldiers should work with other security agencies because they had critical roles to also play in ensuring security in the South-East.
He however, said that the brigade commander had briefed him on the challenges of the brigade and pledged his support based on the resources available.

He later met with the council of traditional rulers in Ohafia Local Government Area, and called for their collaboration in addressing security challenges in the area.

The GOC decried the amount of killing, impunity and insecurity in the South-East and appealed to the traditional rulers to talk to their children, to restore peace in the zone.

In his response, the Chairman, Ohafia Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Igwe Ojike, expressed gratitude to GOC for the visit and for preaching peace.
Ojike also thanked the officers of the brigade for restoring peace in the area and requested for more collaboration with the Army.
