How Owerri Gold Shop Robbery Attack was Foiled

Armed gunmen in military uniform on Saturday staged a robbery attack at Gold Wise shop located opposite Kilimanjaro fast food joint in Ikenegbu area of Owerri Imo State Capital.

The Robbers who arrived the shop on a Sienna vehicl, numbering about Five(5) kitted in security attires and armed to the teeth stormed the shop around noon as traders were beginning to open their doors to customers after the monthly environmental sanitation exercise that lasted till 10am.

According to eyewitness account, the robbers first shot a police officer on duty at the building to gain entrance to the shop where they proceeded to cart away jewelries.

“They loaded two (2) full bags containing gold ornaments and jewelries before they zoomed off. However, luck ran against them as all the exit roads and corners were blocked with cars by people who were aware of the robbery”, he said.

The witness further disclosed that table turned against the robbers when a police officer, armed with a rifle, shot the driver on the head which brought their vehicle to a halt.

“The robbers took to their heels for their safety leaving what they stole and started shooting in return. Two of the robbers were captured, two escaped and one died at the spot (the driver). They were taken to the State Police Command, Owerri.
