Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council has frowned at the ill-treatment to its members by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo-led administration leading to shutting down of National Light Newspapers without making public its reasons.
It said the move portrayed the government as wicked and without human face.
In a communique drafted by Comrades Abuchi Onwumelu and Uche Osunkwo and signed by Council chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka and Secretary, Comrade Aloysius Ofodile, the Congress appealed for government understanding on the issue since it was needless making lists of people in NUJ’s 2023 Hall of Infamy.
The communique partly reads, “Congress frowned at the reckless manner in which National Light Newspapers issue is being handled and called on the staff to be absorbed in the Ministry of Information as anything contrary to welfare of workers shall boomerang.
“Congress could not understand why Soludo’s government was busy employing other workers but cannot allow less than 100 workers at National Light be, even if he doesn’t want to hire more workers or turn around the organization.
“Congress urged journalists across Nigeria and the world to stand up against the injustice by Prof Soludo administration against workers at National Light Newspapers who have committed no offence.
“Congress appealed to the government to take care of the worrisome case of alien baggars all over the place.
“Government encouraged to look into the deplorable situation of Basden Memorial Secondary school, Isulo (school for special students) Orumba South to give it a face-lift.
“Congress praised the government for the mature way it is handling the JAMB score scandal, asking for full investigation in to the matter in favour of fairness.
