Family of Chinyere Awuda who recently died in one of the hotels in Awka, Anambra State has called for justice to ensure soul of their daughter and sister rested in peace.

Chinyere was reportedly beaten to death at the facility by some fun seekers who accused her of picking money they were spraying on their birthday celebrant.

Father of the deceased, Pa Patrick Awuda, who spoke to reporters on Monday, insisted her daughter was never a thief, as no evidence indicated such.

The 79-year old man said his daughter, a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, did not deserve to die the way she did, calling on relevant authorities to ensure that her assassins were brought to book.

Describing the death of the daughter as shocking and devastating, the septuagenarian said, โ€œI called to check on my daughter as usual because she would always call every morning to speak with me but the line wasnโ€™t connecting.

โ€œI then called my son who contacted her friend. We were later taken to the hotel but were made to wait until 4pm when a Police team came and asked if we wanted to see Chinyere.

โ€œThey took us to the abandoned swimming pool and led me in and I saw the lifeless body of Chinyere with physical injuries, but refused us to take pictures and quickly moved her to the morgue.

โ€œMy daughter is a likeable person, she is not a thief as alleged, no evidence to show that she stole, she is a murder victim, that is why we are calling for a thorough investigation of this matter.

โ€œA lot is being said about the cause of my daughterโ€™s death, even the hotel is operating. We ask for an investigation to establish the real cause of her death and it should be made public.

Also speaking, elder brother of the deceased, Ekene Awuda said the family had been privileged to see CCTV video footage of the incident leading to her death.

Ekene said the clip showed that she was beaten to death as shown by the injuries on her body and head as seen in the morgue.

โ€œThe killers of our sister must not go unpunished and we have confidence in the security operatives that those that murdered our sister would be made to face the law.

โ€œThis is the hight of inhuman treatments against our sister and we the family members would not take it like that,” he fumed.
