Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a lone gunman at a popular hotel (name withheld) in Awka.
According to a police report, the suspect identified as Akuchieani Echezona, was moving suspiciously around the hotel premises on Thursday, July 20, 2023 when surveillance operatives accosted him and conducted a search on him.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu IKENGA, further disclosed that the suspect, a male resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.
“One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him” .
According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.
“The suspect is to be arraigned in court at conclusion of investigation.”
