Obosi town in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State was at the weekend thrown into jubilant mood as former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka commenced support to small businesses in the community.

Over 100 petty traders benefited from the business grant which was presented to the market women by wife of former minister, Barr. Chidinma Chidoka.

Chidoka, who was also former Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), had during his mother’s burial in May, promised to set up a business support fund in memory of Late Deaconess Victoria Nneka Chidoka to assist female petty traders.

Recall that Chidoka had before his mother’s burial organized a free Cervical Cancer screening and medical care tagged Nneka Chidoka Outreach Program in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Goverment Area and Obosi in Idemili North Local Goverment Area.

Over 1000 patients received treatment for various illnesses including malaria, diabetes as well as prescription glasses which were also given to over 300 patients.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with journalists thanked the benefactor for his uncommon philanthropic gesture.

A beneficiary, Mrs Alice Mbara who spoke amid tears of joy thanked Chief Chidoka for his intervention.

Mrs Mbara, watermelon and orange hawker in the market was optimistic that the business grant would enable her pay for stand in the market, expand her business and stop her teenage son from hawking.

“I was compelled to engage my 12-year old son in the hawking business because I make little or no profit from the business to afford a good meal for my children daily.

“With this grant, I will not only pay for stand in the market, but expand the business and at the same time stop my son from hawking,” she said.
