Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has called on Ndigbo in the Lagos to remain calm over recent demolition of some buildings at Alaba Market in Lagos state.

Vice President, Chief Damian Okeke who made the appeal in a statement on Thursday said the apex Igbo sociocultural organization was taking necessary measures to ensure peaceful resolution of the matter to protect their interest.

“I urge Ndigbo in the area to remain calm as Ohaneze Ndigbo is taking all measures and has sustained efforts to ensure peaceful resolution of the matter to protect their interest,” he said.

Okeke condemned in strong terms recent outburst of the ex-Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo asking federal government not to release leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

He said his views were prompted by personal and selfish interests to attract favour from government.

He however urged the federal government to heed the call by Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State and other stakeholders to release Kanu.

He argued that his continued detention was not in the interest of the country, moreso as he had already been freed by different courts of competent jurisdiction, assuring that Igbo stakeholders were not relenting in efforts to ensure his release.

“Restoration and promotion of rule of law and respect for the fundamental human rights of individuals are key to stabilising the polity and restoring people’s confidence in governance,” he added.

The Ohanaeze boss further praised Soludo for his political will and courage in focusing on delivering his promises to the people of the state, noting that the Ekwulobia flyover project and other infrastructural facilities were aimed at accelerating sustainable development and better future for the state.

He commended those affected for their understanding and collaboration with the state government.
