The lawmaker representing Ayamelum State Constituency at the 8th Anambra State Assembly, Hon. Bernard Abuchi Udemezue, has pledged to carry his constituents along and fulfil their long-yearning desire for effective representation. Udemezue, who defeated the former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Okafor during the March 18 state House of assembly election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), told Anambradaily shortly after their inauguration on June 13, expressed delight on the massive voting support he received to emerge the winner of the poll and declared himself ready to represent his constituents.
The first-term lawmaker also added that was ready to carry the body along in the discharge of official duties at the State Assembly. “Well, as you can see, It is a new dawn for the good people of Ayamelum and I thank God who made it a reality. I hope there will be a change, they will smile”, he said.
In the result announced by the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Professor George Onwudiwe, Udemezue of the PDP polled 12,993 votes to defeat Okafor who garnered 11,445 and others. Following the victory, Udemezue halted the third-term ambition of the Speaker who has represented the constituency for eight years at the state assembly.
