The governor of Cross River State, Professor Ben Ayade, will, tomorrow (Wednesday), commission the state-owned Teachers Continuous Training Institute, TCTI, in Biase, Cross River State.
The institution, envisioned by Ayade as the first of its kind around Nigeria, is intended to continuously train and retrain teachers on digital literacy. This is with a view to better quality performance by both students and teachers.
In a statement today, the director-general of the institution, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, a consummate educationist and, variously, former minister of sports, then special duties, said that Governor Ayade would be the special guest of honour at the occasion which will also have the state deputy governor, Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu and the state House of Assembly speaker (and senator-elect) Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams in attendance.
Other guests would be the commissioner for Quality Education, Dr. Godwin Amanke, members of the state executive council and stakeholders.
The TCTI was founded by the Ben Ayade administration and kicked off in 2021, starting with the training of the first batch of 50 teachers in high-octane digital literacy. It has also trained about 1,400 public and private secondary school teachers.
Participants were drawn from primary, secondary, vocational and technical colleges as well as the private sector.
Adedoja had told the pioneer (50) participants at the training that they were chosen after a successful baseline assessment of the digital literacy of about 600 others.
Pioneer principal officers of the institution had earlier, in October 2021 been availed a 2-day Induction Workshop to prime them for the effective and efficient management of the institution.
