NYSC @50: Anambra Coordinator prays with Muslims, Drums Support for Completion of Orientation Camp Mosque

The Anambra State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Blessing Iruma on Friday worshiped with muslim community in Awka, the state capital as part of activities to celebrate NYSC @ 50.

Speaking with members of the community shortly after jumat prayers, Iruma praised the leadership for its support, especially in educating their faithful that the state was not as bad as being reported.

She called for mutual relations between the community and the scheme in the state. .

She said, “The scheme is purposely designed to create bounding among Nigerians youths to appreciate each other and cemente good friendship and relationships among the youths.

“I thank you for encouraging your sons and daughters who want to relocate to remain in the state. They are protected in the state.

While calling for assistance in the completion of the ongoing mosque in the camp before the rain intensfies, the Coordinator said the mosque would create befitting praying place for the corps members.

Responding, Serikin Hausa community in Awka, Garuba Haruna commended the scheme for creating cordial relationship among the corps members in the state.

He canvassed for additional corps members to their mosque to assist in teaching their members Islamic knowledge and studies.

He also promised to send his executive to the camp and see what they could do towards completions of the ongoing mosque.

Earlier at the Arch-Bishop Obiefuna Retreat, Pastoral and Conference Center, Okpuno-Awka, Youth Chairman, Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU), Comrade Ken Okoli, delivered a lecture titled, NYSC: Five Decades of Fostering National Unity and Development.

He listed some of the giant strides of the Scheme in the last five decades and concluded that the NYSC has come to stay in view of its relevance in the task of nation development.

While emphasizing on the sustainability of the scheme, Okoli appealed to Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, ethnic and religion affiliations to always be of help to corps members posted to their various communities across the country.

He thanked founding-fathers for establishing NYSC for the sake of peace and unity among Nigeria youths.

State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma argued that the 50years anniversary is not necessarily a festivity but moment for stock-taking over the journey so far and the future of the scheme.

“NYSC is a training ground for Nigeria youths to discover their God-given talents through the scheme’s skills aquisition empowerment programme,” she said.

Others who spoke at the occasion included State Deputy Commandant, Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Mrs. Christy Obasi, Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Pschological Association (NPA), Dr. Casmir Nnaemeka and Assistant Commissioner of Police in the state, Ajah Chukwu.
