2023 Polls: Group Calls for Probe of Nnewi discarded PVCs

The Executive Director, Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI) has called for thorough investigation into alleged recovery of uncollected Permanent Voters Cards PVCs in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Executive Director, Nonso Orakwe in a statement, said the investigation has become necessary to ensure rights of eligible voters were protected and upheld.

He statement reads, “We are deeply concerned about recent reports regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the alleged discarding of voters in Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA) in the lead up to the general election. 

“We are calling for a thorough investigation into this matter to ensure that the rights of all eligible voters are protected and upheld.

“Every citizen has the right to vote and be counted in elections, regardless of their political affiliations, ethnicity, or religious beliefs. 

“Any attempt to manipulate the electoral process and disenfranchise voters is a serious violation of democratic principles and must be investigated and addressed with the utmost urgency.

“We therefore call on security agencies and  INEC to investigate the allegations of voter cards discarding in Nnewi North LGA and provide transparent and timely updates to the public on the progress of their investigation. 

“We also urge all political parties and stakeholders to respect the outcome of the investigation and to refrain from any actions that may cause unrest or undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

“The right to vote is a fundamental pillar of democracy, and we must all work together to protect and uphold this right. 

“We urge all citizens to remain vigilant and engaged in the electoral process, and to report any instances of voter suppression or electoral malpractice to the appropriate authorities. We must get it right and shun any form of electoral violence.”
