Soludo Orders Release of Soldier Abducted During Peace Mission in Ayamelum

Anambra Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has ordered for immediate release of a soldier allegedly abducted by some youths at Anaku community in Ayamelum Local Government area while on a peace mission.

The Ayamelum Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Chief Livinus Onyenwe, who made the disclosure on Monday said the soldier was abducted, and his gun taken away during gun battle with the youths.

He said the soldiers, in retaliation, pulled down the house of the gang leader, and those of some other youths suspected to belong to the deadly gang.

AnambraDaily gathered that security operatives, including soldiers, were posted to restore peace to the area when youth led by their kingpin, identified as Vulture reportedly killed eight persons and injured many in Omor community last Monday.

According to Onyenwe, Governor Soludo had directed law enforcement agencies to do everything within their constitutional powers to ensure the soldier was rescued, and his rifle returned.

He further disclosed that the governor had directed that security operatives would remain in the town until the perpetrators were tracked down.

“The state governor, Prof Chukwuma   Soludo has directed youth of the community to immediately release the soldier and return his gun.

“The governor also directed law enforcement agencies in the state, including the police, army, DSS, Civil Defense and others to do everything within their constitutional powers to ensure that the soldier is rescued, and his raffle returned,” he stated.

Meanwhile, State Police Command has reassured its determination to arrest the hoodlums and ensured they were apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.

Speaking through its spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the command said it is not only striving to rescue the security personnel and recover his arms, but would restore sanity to the troubled areas.
