The Anambra State government has sealed off branch of Fiat Missionaries Community Children’s Home Nkwelle, Onitsha Anambra State over non-compliance with provisions of the law in running an orphanage.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo said the action followed tip off from a whistle blower who notified the ministry that operator of the home opened a new branch without due registration.
Speaking through her Senior Social Welfare Officer, Mr Obiora Onunkwo shortly after sealing the home, Obinabo explained that the act was targeted at sending a strong warning to defaulters to desist forthwith or face consequences of their actions.
She warned that more homes would soon be closed if operators failed to comply with provisions of the law in running orphanages.
She said, “I ordered the sealing off of the home after a whistle blower notified the ministry of an opening of a new branch without due registration.
“On getting to Fiat Missionaries Community Children’s Home, Nkwelle, I also discovered that the mode of operations in the home was substandard.
“More homes will be closed in coming months if operators fail to comply with the provisions of the law in running orphanage homes.”
