The Commissioner for Youth Empowerment in Anambra, Mr Patrick Aghamba, has charged participants in the ‘One youth, two skills’ apprenticeship programme to take their training seriously.
Aghamba gave the advice during an inspection visit to some training centres in the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme is the Chukwuma Soludo-led administration’s initiative to empower at least 130,000 youths with marketable skills and entrepreneurial skills.
The government said its aim was to produce 1,000 youthful millionaires every year.
The commissioner said that the tour was to enable him to assess the progress so far made and ensure that the centres complied with set standards.
He further said that the tour would help him to ascertain possible challenges facing the programme implementation.
He thanked the selected master trainers for keying into the State Government’s programme and urged them to ensure its success by handling the trainees with utmost diligence.
He said that there were 468 master trainers deployed in the centres.
He said: “The State Government is committed and passionate to achieve the youth empowerment programme so as to engage the unemployed youths meaningfully.
“I commend the trainers for being among the team driving the programme and the trainees should keep their interest alive to ensure they come out better after the training,” Aghamba said.
Some of the centres visited included the Onyemelukwe Institute of Management and Technology, Joycee Fingers Foods, De Gucci Soft Care, IJ Fashion World, Exotic Signatures Makeup School and Judah Natural Hair Salon.
Others were Auto Care Digital Garage, Chinaka Auto Panel Beater, Tetra Dipole Tech. Computer Training Center, Clefe O Clem Concept Ltd., Property Company and De Juicy Signature.
In a remark, the Director, Institute of Management and Technology, Rev. Azuka Chukwuma, said that the centre had 138 trainees.
Chukwuma further said that the institute had five departments, including fashion design, catering services, Information Communication Technology, Cosmetology and Salon. (NAN)
