A heavy fire outbreak was on Monday night averted by men of Fire Service behind the Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) Building of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
The State Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili who confirmed this in a statement, blamed the inferno on heavy bush burning in the area.
Agbili who said no life was lost in the fire, however said the fire would have spread to nearby buildings in the area if not for quick response of the fire fighters.
He said, “At about 1916hrs (7.16pm) of 02-01-2023, Anambra State Fire Service received distress call of fire outbreak behind the PGD Building of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
“We immediately deployed our fire truck and Firefighters to fire scene and fought the fire to standstill.
“The fire was caused by heavy bush burning, but no life or properties were lost.”
