One person lost his life on Wednesday, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injury in a fatal accident along Onitsha-Nteje-Awka expressway in Anambra State.
The crash which occurred around 2.25 pm, involved two commercial buses with Reg. No: JRV 616 XA and No: JJJ 179 XS respectively.
An eyewitness said the bus with registration number JRV 616 XA collided with the other bus after one of its tyres pulled out while in motion.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi said the deceased body has been deposited at the morgue while the injured are receiving treatment at the hospital.
He sympathized with the deceased family, warning motorist to desist from excessive speed and wrongful overtaken especially during the festive period when the roads are very busy
He said, “Fourteen persons were involved in the crash comprising (4 male adults and 6 female adults, 1 male child and 3 female children).
“Eight persons, comprising three male adults, three female adults and three female children) sustained varying degrees of injury and 1 male adult was killed.
“The crash victims were rushed to Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka where the doctor confirmed one (1) dead on arrival before depositing him to their motuary.
“Others are taking treatment after reaching first aid from the nurse detailed at FRSC help area, Nteje.”
