No fewer than 80 suspected notorious criminals have been arrested in the Upper Iweka area of Onitsha, Anambra State.
The suspects responsible for petty crimes around the area noted for high rate of criminality were arrested during a raid within the commercial city.
Leader of Anambra Youth Volunteers and Anambra North Zonal Coordinator of Anambra Joint Enforcement Team (ANJET), Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, in a statement, said the arrest followed viral voice note on WhatsApp late last night.
He added that the feat was in line with Governor Soludoโs instruction of a crime-free Yuletide.
He said, “Following a viral voice note on WhatsApp late last night, the Anambra Youth Volunteers in collaboration with the Anambra Joint Enforcement Team (ANJET), raided the entire upper Iweka to smoke out criminal elements terrorizing the area.
“The attached videos show amateur footages of apprehended suspected criminals and the hideout from which they perpetrate heinous crimes.
“Going forward, the Anambra Youth Volunteers in collaboration with ANJET and other law enforcement agencies will continue to make Upper Iweka and environs inhabitable for criminals.
“We have deployed a team of local youth volunteers around the State to support law enforcement agencies with intelligence and enforcement where necessary.
“We urge Ndi Anambra to support Mr Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludoโs effort to make our homeland Liveable and prosperous.”
