The National Population Commission (NPC) on Monday said its e-recruitment portal for ad-hoc staff for the 2023 Population and Housing Census has not closed.

The Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State in the Commission, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke disclosed this in Awka, the State capital while declaring open a 10-day Zonal Level Training of Principal Trainers in preparation for the exercise.

He said the date has been extended to December 28 to give room for more interested persons to apply, advising qualified candidates to take advantage of the extension to apply.

He said, “The recruitment is still on and would end on December 28, 2022. Earlier, we had announced that it would end on December 10. But after the board met, they decided to extend it to allow more people to register.

“The portal is still on for interest people to register. You know everything about this census is digital, so some of those complaining of difficulty in registering are analog while some may be network challenges.”

According to the Commissioner, it was necessary to train the facilitators who would in turn train the supervisors and enumerators at the state level in view of the huge impact quality officers have on the outcome of the Census.

He listed the objectives of the training to include preparing the second level trainers for a standardized census training and adequately teaching the concept and definitions for the exercise.

“The training will also provide clear guidelines for the field enumeration procedures for the census, robust instructions on use of census data collection and applications as well as first-hand guides for field operations.

“It is worthy of note that this training is put together to enhance the technical and managerial capacity and skills of the participants to teach other field functionaries for the success of the census,” Ezeoke added.

The State Director, Dr. Joachim Ulasi disclosed that a total of 260 participants, including 227 trainees, 25 facilitators and Zonal Coordinators were participating in the exercise.

“There are two centers in Southeast, Anambra and Ebonyi States. While Ebonyi is hosting participants from Ebonyi and Enugu States, Anambra is the center for participants from Abia, Imo and Anambra States,” he added.
