The Anambra State Government says it allocated the sum of N78 billion for the rehabilitation and construction of 243 kilometers road across the state in the 2023 budget.
Mr Ifeanyi Okoma, state’s Commissioner for Works, made the disclosure while defending the Ministry’s 2023 budget before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works, on Thursday in Awka.
Okoma said that Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration declared a state of emergency on roads and was planning to ensure the provision of road infrastructure to accelerate development in the state.
“In the 2023 budget, the sum of N78 billion has been allocated to fund the 243 kilometers of road awarded so far by Gov. Soludo and for the construction and rehabilitation of more roads across the state.
“The Governor is also working towards development of Automotive industry in Akwaihedi, a Pharmaceutical industry at Oba and a Pharmaceutical production industry at Ogborji, to create more employment opportunities for residents.
“I assure you that the raw materials for these projects will be sourced from the state. This administration also place priority on urban regeneration to make the state a livable, prosperous mega city, ” he said.
Reacting, Dr Tim Ifedioranma, Chairman, House Committee on Works, commended Gov. Soludo for the commencement of work on the roads awarded.
Ifedioranma said that the committee would embark on oversight visit to all the road projects across the state to prevent execution of shoddy jobs.
He urged residents to take full ownership of the projects to prevent theft and vandalism.
