UNFPA Donates Over 500 Women Dignity Kits to Flood Victims in Anambra

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has donated over 500 dignity kits to victims of flood in Awka, Anambra State.
These items are as a support to women and young girls from the flood affected areas of the state to ameliorate their sufferings.
Receiving the items, Commissioner for women and social welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo, appreciated the organization for their support especially as it concerns pregnant women and young girls, noting that with the supplies received, victims of flood will be well taken care of.
She also explained that with the support, the state will be adequately prepared ahead of next flood by training personnels in readiness for the flood.
She assured UNFPA of the states readiness in partnering with them to promote the well-being of women and girl child.
While handing over the items, the Humanitarian Coordinator UNFPA, Mr Macaulay Sabum Christian noted that the mandate of UNFPA is to protect vulnerable women and girls who are victims of flood, rape and other kind of abuses hence the need to take action in ensuring that their well-being is not trampled upon in the society.
Meanwhile the team from UNFPA had earlier interfaced with the Commissioner for women and social welfare where they intimated her that delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every child birth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled remains the number one priority of the organization.
Items donated were 3in1 pants, dozens of toothpaste and toothbrushes, dozens of buckets, dozens of Vaseline cream, whistle for emergency.
Others are dozens of shaving sticks, Mats, Combs, Wrapper, Liquid soaps, dozens of 6in1 reusable pads, dozens of 2in1 bar soap, washing powder among others.
The UNFPA donation was done in collaboration with the Royal Heritage Health Foundation while Dr Kelvin Chukwuka, Sexual Reproductive Health Specialist, Maiduguri Sub office among other UNFPA personnels were present during the handover.
