Disaster was averted on Friday when a fully loaded petroleum tanker traveling along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway exploded at Ugwuoba, a border town in Enugu State, housing the Hausa community.
A source disclosed that the fire incident occurred before noon, when a leakage in the tanker caused fire to erupt.
The inferno was however combated by operatives of the Anambra State Fire Service, who promptly raced to the scene from their Agu-Awka station.
The Chief Fire fighter in Anambra, Mr Martin Agbili who confirmed the incident said the fire was effectively put off, after a fight by men of the command.
โAt about 1100hrs (11am) of today 28-10-2022, Anambra State Fire Service, Awka, Nigeria received a distress call of petrol tanker fire along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway beside Ugwuoba Garki Market, Enugu State.
โThe fully loaded tanker with 35,000 litres of petrol was parked along the road and suddenly it caught fire due to the petrol leakage from the top of the tank through direct sunlight.
โThe tanker was saved, and the fire was also prevented from entering inside the main petrol tank. There was no loss of life.โ
