Imam Fuad Adeyemi, the National Chief Imam, Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, and Chief Executive Director, Just Foundation, says the NGO had embarked on training of youths on profitable social media to shift their minds away from 419 (yahoo-yahoo).
Adeyemi stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
NAN reports that Adeyemi spoke on the sidelines of a one-day workshop organised by Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society for Imams and Islamic Scholars across Kebbi State, supported by MacArthur Foundation.
The programme is designed to encourage eating of Halal (lawful means of livelihood) and to enable religious leaders stand on their feet.
Adeyemi said: โWe are training youths on how to use their phones to make money instead of engaging in 419 activities, this, we have already started and is making impact.
โAt the same time, we are training women, we are also working with other organisations that will support the funding of what we are doing.
โThe National Directorate of Employment (NDE) is also supporting us to train people, not only the people that come for the programme but any number that we bring to them they are ready to take it and the same thing with AFAN.โ
On challenges, the cleric identified funding as the main challenge but assured that they had already made adequate preparation for it.
โThe challenge we foresaw is just about funding and we are always ready for that, we know we will have problem with funding, because once you ask somebody to start a work he must need funds to start that work, we are already working on where and how to get money.
โThe only thing is the challenge the country has, thatโs security challenge, for example we were supposed to hold a programme in Enugu but we had to cancel it and take it to another state because of security challenges,โ he said.
He explained that the expectation of the organisation was for the participants to learn what to say and how to say it with respect and humility so that there wonโt be corruption in the society.
Adeyemi also stressed the need for the participants to learn how to talk to leaders without fight or quarrel but with humility and respect to achieve results. (NAN)
