The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has pledged to curb the operations of vandals sabotaging Nigeria’s telecommunication facilities.

Mrs Beatrice Irabor, NSCDC Assistant Commandant General (ACG) in charge of Telecommunications and Power, gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to NATCOM Development and Investment Limited in Abuja.

Irabor said that the Corps would tackle the menace and ensure the prosecution of those involved.

“We are going to proactively and deliberately secure telecom facilities and bring perpetrators to justice in order to make life better for our people.

“It is no longer going to be business as usual for the enemies of this sector, we are stepping up our operations and strategies with renewed vigor to solve this menace.

“The Corps will leave no stone unturned in protecting the telecom sector and reduce attacks on its infrastructures to the barest minimum if not eradicated completely,” she assured.

According to the Unit Head, the corps will particularly go after the criminals vandalising major telecommunication facilities in some Northern parts of the country.

She said that the vandalism had resulted to huge loss of resources and revenues to both government and investors in the sector.

Irabor said that NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, had directed the department to secure the telecom infrastructure and all other public assets in the country.

Responding, NATCOM Chief Executive Officer, Dr Babatunde Omotoba, appreciated the efforts of the NSCDC in protecting telecommunications facilities across Nigeria.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the leadership of the Corps, especially the Commandant General for the good job the Corps’ personnel are doing in the protection of our Telecom Assets and Infrastructure across states.

“Their selfless service and display of integrity and lack of compromise cannot be overlooked, we are really grateful,” he said.

Omotoba said the Agency will continue to cooperate with the Corps with a view to sustaining the existing relationship.(NAN)
