Soludo Appoints Arc. Michael Okonkwo, chairman of Anambra Urban Regeneration Council

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the appointments of Arc. Michael M. Okonkwo as the chairman of the Anambra Urban Regeneration Council.


Also appointed into the 10-member council includes Ven. Barrister Amaechi Okwuosa (Vice Chairman), Mr Ernest Ezeajughi (Secretary), Arc. (Dr) Innocent Okpanum (Member), Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor (Member), Surveyor Lucky Ebuechukwu Ginigeme (Member), Mr Anayo Val Ezenwa (Member), Engr. Godwin Anyaegbunam (Member), Barrister Tochukwu Nweke (Member) and Arc. Ikemefuna Chinwuba (Member).

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Aburime, the appointments of members of the urban regional council takes ‘immediate effect.
Arc. Okonkwo, a former Anambra Commissioner for Environment and later Housing, is widely regarded as a seasoned architect, administrator, and advocate of a greener universe. One of his infrastructural projects as commissioner for the environment was the remodelling of the Dennis Memorial Grammar School, DMGS roundabout, and the Re-dedication of the statue of Rt Hon. Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa).

Okonkwo reconstructed the existing roundabout to meet the modern standard in aesthetics and functionality. He made the architectural design of the roundabout to suit the cultural references of Onitsha Tradition and Custom.


He equally reconstructed the base of Zik’s statue and raise the platform to an elevation befitting the legend of Zik of Africa. He introduced an iconic monument that maintains the grandeur and iconic stature of Zik’s place in the state, nation, and continent.
