Molokwu Family Hails Prof. Ngozi Okafo’s National Award as Great Pride to Onitsha People

The Molokwu family of Umuikem Village, Onitsha in Anambra State, has hailed the conferment of the prestigious national award, Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on their kinsman, Chief (Prof.) Ngozi Okafo.

The family, in a statement signed by Nwakibie Dr. Henry T. Molokwu, described the award as a great pride to Onitsha town.

The statement read: “The conferment is a matter of great pride to the people of Onitsha and all those who have known and been associated with Prof. Okafo, Ogene Onira.

“He has left great marks for decades in education, the academia and cultural leadership in ways that have stood him out at the loftiest levels.

“We rejoice with Prof. Okafo today as we celebrate his stellar attainments, and pray for long life, more successes and greater service to Onitsha, to Nigeria and to the world.

It will be recalled that pioneer educationist, the late Nnanyelugo P. N. C. Molokwu of Umuikem Village, Onitsha, was honoured with the British insignia of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), by Queen Elizabeth II during her Royal visit to Nigeria in March, 1956.

PNC Molokwu served the country in several capacities, including as first Nigerian Principal of Edo College, Benin City; first Nigerian Secretary of the Federal Scholarships and Advisory Board; first Permanent Secretary and Chief Inspector of Education of the East Central State Ministry of Education, and Project Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO.

On behalf of the Trustees and Members of the Estate of Nnanyelugo PNC Molokwu (MBE), and the Molokwu family of Umuikem Village, Onitsha, I cogratulate our kinsman and Onye Ichie, Chief (Prof.) Ngozi Okafo, on this milestone.

The conferment is a matter of great pride to the people of Onitsha and all those who have known and been associated with Prof. Okafo, Ogene Onira.

He has left great marks for decades in education, the academia and cultural leadership in ways that have stood him out at the loftiest levels.

We rejoice with Prof. Okafo today as we celebrate his stellar attainments, and pray for long life, more successes and greater service to Onitsha, to Nigeria and to the world.
