26 Anambra Indigenes Amongst 450 Nigerians Conferred National Honours

About 26 Anambra Indigenes were amongst the 450 Nigerians and non-Nigerians who were on Tuesday conferred with various national honours by President Muhammadu Buhari for distinguished services to the nation and humanity.


The event which took place at the International Conference Center, Abuja was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Presidentโ€™s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari among others.
Top Nigerians who were recipients of the 2022 National Honours Award for the category of Grand Commander of di Order of di Niger (GCON) were: Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Immediate past CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, Director-General, World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Deputy Secretary-General of UN, Amina Mohammed and Nigeria Permanent Representative to the United Nations UN, Prof Tijjani Muhammad-Bande.
Top on the list of Anambra indigenes who received the prestigious national honours included Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma; CEO Innoson Vehicles (CON), Chief Chidi Anyaegbu; CEO Chisco Motors: (CON); Prof. Benedict Okechukwu Oramah; President/CEO Afriexim Bank (CON), Engr (Dr) Chukwuemeka Okwuosa: Oil Mogul/Businessman (CON) and Dr. Allen Onyema; Chairman, Air Peace (CON) as well as Igwe Prof. Laz Edward Nnanyelu Ekwueme, Traditional Ruler (CON).


Two traditional rulers from Ayamelum Local Government area, HRH Igwe Prof Onuora Nwuneli Academia (OON) and HRH Igwe Dr.Oranu Chris Chidume Traditional Ruler (MON), also received the awards for their various contributions to the society.
According to the National Honours Award Investiture 2022 Programme, 450 recipients were awarded, making the total number of Nigeriaโ€™s national honours awardees 5,341 since 1963.
