CLO Demands Urgent Government Assistance to Flood Displaced Persons in Anambra Riverrine Communities

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Anambra State chapter has appealed to the federal government to urgently intervene and come to aid of excruciating and pathetic plights and predicaments of victims of devastating flooding menace.

”The flooding menace ravaging more than five local governments comprising Anambra East and West, Ayemelum, Ogbaru, Awka South that has displaced more than 30,000 persons, destroyed many farmlands, crops, schools, hospitals and many houses.

This was contained in a press statement tagged”matter of urgent public important” endorsed by Comrades Evangelist Vincent and Chidi Mbah chairman and secretary respectively.

”We commends the relentless efforts of State government, FERMA, SEMA and other public spirited individuals towards ameliorating the pathetic sufferings, plights and predicament of victims of ravaging flood disaster due to torrential downpour currently in its apogee.

”We extols on the spot assessment of flood ravaged areas by FERMA, SEMA and government officials to enable government know the extent of damage and proffers immediate and permanent solution to the menace.

”Federal government should kindly despatch palliatives and relief materials to the victims and their families.
We commend State Government for constructing thirteen internal displaced persons camps.

”We appeal for immediate and urgent evacuation of displaced families to the IDP camps in order to save lives, gives hope and succour to the victims.

“Government should device means of continuous education of children of victims of devasting flooding that has submerged many houses.
We equally seek for more help from FERMA, SEMA, Political Officers from the affected Local Governments, Public spirited individuals and stakeholders to works assiduously and contributes immensely towards ameliorating the pathetic problems of victims of flood disaster.
