The Movement For Election of Nigeria President of Igbo Extraction has appealed to political parties and candidates vying for various political positions and their supporters to toe the path of civility, tolerance, decorum, mutual respect and issue-based electioneering campaigns ahead of the 2023 general election.
The National Convener of the group, Comrade Evangelist Vincent Ezekwueme and Secretary Professor Justus Chidi made the call in a press statement issued on Tuesday.
The state titled “Let us get it right” urged political gladiators to give peace a chance by embarking on issued based campaigns through well articulated manifestos and how they intends to actualized them.
The statement read in parts: “It is no longer news that Nigeria has multi faceted challenges and problems bedeviling her, so needs servant leaders that has panacea and wherewithal to fix, revamp, revive and rescue our economy, leadership failures, restores security, peace, unity and tranquility in the country.
“It is pertinent for us to based our supports and solidarity on national interest, patriotism, justice and equity in the choice of our candidates.
“Aspirants and political parties should counsel and call their overzealous supporters to order and advise them to avoid casting unnecessary aspersions, campaign of calumny, unsubstantiated allegations and hate speech against their perceived opponents.
“Let us strive to get it right and avoids heating up the political atmosphere. Worthy of note is for Independent National Electoral Commission to hold candidates accountable for any misbehaviour of their overzealous and fanatical supporters.
“We commends political intelligence, sagacity, maturity, tolerance and without rancour and bitterness exhibits by the presidential candidate of Labour Party Mr. Peter Obi. There is needs for others to emulate∆ him in other to sanitize and transform our electoral system for better.
“It is of prime importance to note that among all the numerous candidates only two persons will be elected as president and vice president respectively. It is of great relevance for candidates not to see politics as do or die affair but an avenue to advance common good and interest.
“We wish to reiterate our appeal for Nigerians to obtain their permanent voters card to enable them participate during 2023 general elections.
