The chairman of Ogbaru Relief (Main) market, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, Chief Daniel Ogbogu, has warned traders to desist from building illegal structures in the market or face the wrath of the state government.
Ogbogu advised traders who want to build structures to get approval documents from the state government, adding that it would no longer be business as usual in the market.
“We want to save your lives by asking you to get approval from the state government or forget the building because we will not tolerate that. People are dying untimely because of lack of quality materials and we will not allow that to happen in our market.
“Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, through his hard working Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Obinna Ngonadi, is working hard to ensure a better Anambra State, and we will support the government to achieve this “
The chairman who was flanked by his Secretary, Chief Nnanna Nnanna, also urged the State Government to come to the rescue of the traders by ensuring that work on the gully erosion site, at the Sakamori (drainage system), that has since commenced and which it influenced, is completed on record time.
The chairman lamented that flood has carried away materials being used by the workers as a result of constant down pour, even as he complained that epileptic work is what goes on there currently, as the workers occasionally attend to their work on the site.
“The constant heavy down pour destroyed a good percentage of the work done at the gully erosion site, and carried away some of the materials used for the construction work.
“The market is at the notorious Upper Iweka axis and if not for the water-tight security we have in the market, criminals would have capitalized on the ugly situation to loot and burgle shops in the market”.
