Anambra Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) on Friday distributed food items to 53 police officersโ widows and their children.
The items distributed include: tin tomatoes, confectioneries, noodles, sugar, yoghurts, detergents, bags of rice, toiletries, salts, biscuits, beans, drinks, and sewing machines, among others.
Distributing the items at the Police Command, Chairperson of POWA, Mrs. Ikemi Echeng, who is also wife of Police Commissioner, Echeng Echeng disclosed that over 100 officers who lost their husbands while on active service would benefit from the gesture.
She said, “POWA is donating the food items to the wives and children of the deceased police officers who laid their lives to ensure a secured society.
“The widows and orphans in our midst are part of us and we will continue to remain part of them.”
Mrs. Echeng praised the women for allowing their husbands give their all to the society, stressing that it was POWA’s responsibility to ensure they were not just comfortable, but that their plight would remain their priority.
Appreciating the executive of the association, Mrs. Pauline Ajibo prayed for Godโs continuous blessings upon the benefactors, hoping that the foodstuff would alleviate the burden they have been shouldering as a result of the loss of their families’ breadwinners.
A member of POWA, Mrs Blessing Emmanuel who received sewing machine and food stuff in tears, wished her husband was alive, and was optimistic that the intervention would reduce her sufferings.
