The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu says he would not resign his position and that those demanding for his resignation did not have the interest of the party at heart.

The embattled PDP chairman, in an Interview with BBC Hausa Services on Wednesday, stated emphatically that he had nowhere to go to and that since he was elected based on the laid down law by the PDP, he would not step down.
He said: “I was elected PDP National President for four years, now I am not even one year old. The issue of Atiku’s election does not apply to the position of party leader. I won the election. In our constitution we have done this.’

“I haven’t done anything wrong, I’m reforming the party, the noise is not bothering me,” he said.
According to him, “I know that I am working, I have not stolen money, I have not committed any crime, so I do not see anything to talk about.”
He said the failure to bridge the divide with Wike would not hinder the party’s success in the 2023 election. “When we started the PDP journey, we did not see these children. They are children who do not know why we established this party. We will not allow one person to come and destroy our party,” he stated.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his camp had demanded for the resignation of Ayu as the only condition for him to support the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar. He had been at loggerhead with the party since the conduct of the presidential primary election early this year. He was also overlooked in the selection of the vice presidential slot of the party.
