The Inspector General of Police, Alkali Usman Baba has charged the newly promoted officers in Anambra State to discharge their duties with every sense of responsibility.

He said excellent performance were being expected from them, warning that those found wanting would not be tolerated.

The IGP who was represented by the Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, reiterated the committment of the force to ensuring that all personnel in the Command conformed to the goal of attaining a repositioned force.

The officers, 39 in all, were decorated after being promoted from Deputy Superintendent of Police to Superintendent of Police at the Police headquarters, Amawbia.

He said, “We’re here for the decoration of officers promoted from DSP to SP. These are officers found worthy by the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces, the IGP and also the Police Service Commission after going through their details.

“The IGP has kept almost the promises he made on assumption of office, and one of them is the one we’re witnessing today.

What the IG has been doing through promotion and other welfare packages is to ensure your morale is high.

“Promotion comes from God with the responsibility that follow. You may receive new postings from today, and wherever your posting takes you to, you’re expected to perform excellently because Police is all about service to the people.

“But where you’re found wanting, the force won’t tolerate you. So you must be very careful because we’re watching you at your various postings.”

Earlier, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga explained that the high number of promoted officers from Anambra was a demonstration of the fact that efforts of men and officers of the command in the fight against crime were not taken for granted.

โ€œThe promotion also shows that Anambra State Police command is firm despite the security challenges we are witnessing in Anambra.

โ€œThis shows that our efforts have not gone unnoticed. We are ever ready to fight crime and ensure safety in Anambra and the promotion will spur us further,โ€ he said.

Responding on behalf of the officers, SP Ogwu Emmanuel appreciated the force for finding them worthy of the elevation, pledging not to betray the confidence reposed in them.
