Anambra Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has described the sudden death of the Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Nnamdi Godwin Okafor as shocking. Okafor, who represents Awka South 1 State constituency at the state legislature slumped and died in a hotel room in Sandton City, Johannesburg South Africa in the early hours of August 23, 2022.
He was attending a statutory training session of members of Anambra State House of Assembly in South Africa when the incident occurred.
Soludo in his official reaction and condolence message on Wednesday, lamented the passage of the lawmaker barely three months after the gruesome murder of Hon. Okey Okoye by gunmen.
Soludo said, โIt is shocking that the State Assembly lost another lawmaker to the cold hands of death, coming barely three months after the demise of the lawmaker representing Aguata 2 Constituency, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye.
โDr. Nnamdi Okafor was an active participant at the 7th Assembly who devoted his time and energy to represent his constituency. Heโll be sorely missed.
โOn behalf of Anambra State Government, may I use this medium to convey my sympathy to those he left behind, including his family, Awka Constituency 1 and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor as well as other lawmakers.
The governor added, โIndeed, life is ephemeral.
May the living continue to reflect on the essence of life and live for the good of the society like Dr. Okafor didโ.
