The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has expressed its readiness to offer support services to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in areas of Staff training on personal security for a better and safe working environment.

State Commandant, Mr. Isidore Chukwudi Chikere who stated this during a visit to the Branch Controller, CBN Awka, Mr. Benedict Maduagwu, also assured protection of the apex bank’s facility classified as critical national assets/infrastructure.

Isidore, represented by Deputy Commandant, Francis Obinna Nnadi, Head of Private Guard Company Department of the Command also assured the command’s commitment in the fight against cyber crimes and naira peddling in the State in a bid to protect the nation’s currency and economy.

He sued for a greater synergy and collaboration with the apex bank.

Earlier, Maduagwu reiterated CBN’s commitment to fight all forms of economic and financial crimes, particularly cybercrimes.

He described the visit as appropriate and timely, just as he appreciated the call for partnership by NSCDC in that regard.

Expressing satisfaction with the Corps for its support in the arrest, prosecution and conviction of peddlers, the CBN boss condemned the act of hawking and selling new currency notes on the streets.

He regretted that such feat was easier with partnership with relevant agencies.

He said, “The clampdown on vendors of naira note is hinged on Section 20 of the CBN Act, which warns against hawking counterfeiting, selling or trading in naira notes, coins or any other note issued by the bank.

“CBN is determined to rid the nation of all forms of financial crimes , that is why we are happy with this call for partnership , we are well prepared to collaborate with you to enhance our operations.”
