Unknown Gunmen Member Caught, Stripped in Anambra Community

A member of armed criminal gang terrorising Aguata area under the banner of ‘Unknown Gunmen’ were on Sunday nabbed by brave youths at Uga community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

AnambraDaily gathered that the suspect became stranded when his gang members fled the crime scene at Nkwọ Ụga market.

 An eyewitness told our correspondent that the gummen stormed the area in a bus, started operating and shooting indiscriminately to disperse the people.
“They also snatched some motorcycles from some commercial motorcyclists  at the market, to enhance their operation.

 According to him, ” immediately other members of the gang fled with the snatched motorcycles,  youths trooped out to confront them; the driver of the bus was trapped as the courageous youths immediately used iron barricades to block the road and  rushed and  apprehended him when he jumped down from the bus and tried to escape into a nearby bush”.

A viral video showed the villagers surrounding and interrogating the suspect, beating him black and blue with machetes and clubs and later stripped him.

Another source said, “The mob nearly set him ablaze, but was advised to interrogate him, rather than kill him, as he had already received adequate beating. During the interrogation, the suspect said he hails from a community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. 

He confessed to the crime, and further revealed a partial identity of their leader and  herbalist who prepares charms for them.

Reacting to the development, Governor Chukwuma Soludo assured the people of the state that his government was making frantic efforts to ensure adequate security of lives and property, calling for continued support on government in the fight against insecurity by reporting any suspect or suspected criminal activities to the government and the law enforcement agencies through designated phone numbers.

Speaking through his press decretary, Christian Aburime on the telephone, Soludo enjoined residents to always hand over any arrested suspect to the law enforcement agencies for adequate investigation and prosecution, rather than resorting to jungle justice.

When contacted , the state Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga promised to get back to our correspondent with details on the matter.
