A total of 42 corps members in Anambra State have been recommended for correctional measures for defaulting in the four cardinal programmes of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Iruma has said.
Iruma who disclosed this on Thursday during the passing out parade of 2021 Batch B Stream 1 corps members, said some of the culprits would either have their national service extended, while some would have outright repeat of their service year.
She however said three corps members were recommended for state honors awards, while eleven others would receive State Coordinator’s letter of commendation.
She restated the scheme’s readiness to partner with the state government towards grassroots development, just as she reminded corps members’ employers to send in their requests early for improved service delivery.
Governor of the State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo announced that the state lost a female corps member in course of her service in the State.
Soludo, represented by Commissioner for Youths, Patrick Aghamba assured NYSC management of soon intervention to the ravaging erosion menace at the camp, saying he was already in touch with professionals to handle the landscaping.
He said, “We’re aware of the challenges facing the scheme at the orientation camp, especially the ravaging influence of erosion and I’m in contact with professionals that will handle the landscaping.
“We cannot in anyway watch our highly admired structures at the camp be washed away by erosion.
“We’re also aware of your exposure to skills while at the camp and followed up the training to some level of perfection.
“With this, I have no doubt that the usual unemployment fever that grips youth will not affect you.”
